Measuring 40.6 mm in diameter with thickness of 4 mm, each Great River Journeys coin weighs 31.135 g, containing 99.9 percent pure silver. In Algoquin Indian language, the Mississippi is “big river” and it’s certainly a large part of the American landscape, running roughly 2,300 miles. On the coin, you can see the paddle-wheel steamboat, which strongly reflects the character and history of the “Mighty Mississippi.” In the background, you will see the modern city of New Orleans, and you can tell because there’s the Greater New Orleans Bridge, in splendorous colors of orange and red. At the top of the coin, you will see the word “MISSISSIPPI” and at the bottom, the words “GREAT RIVER JOURNEYS.”
Known as the longest river in the world, the Nile measures an astounding 4,000 miles or more. The importance of the Nile in Egyptian civilization cannot be overstated.
